Billy J. Hurst, age 75, a resident of Russellville, AR, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at his home. He was born on June 28, 1925 at Stigler, OK, to William Roy and Willie Mae Moss Hurst. Mr. Hurst served in the United States Navy during World War II as a carpenter's mate on a U.S. naval carrier. He was the owner and operator of Hurst Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Anna Morphis Hurst and a son, Randy Allen Hurst and 3 brothers, William Paul Hurst, Carl Leroy Hurst and Walter Leon Hurst and a sister, Alta Mae Hurst. He was a member of the Homebuilders Association and the Rogers Rye Post of the VFW and a member of the Gospel Assembly of God Church. His family said 'He was happiest out on the Illinois Bayou fishing and hunting with his family.'
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Hurst of Russellville; two sons, Tommy and Donna Hurst of Dallas, Stanley and Carol Hurst of Dallas; one daughter, Mellisa Hurst Hill of Russellville; two step sons, Laney and Brenda Prince of Russellville, Randy and Cindy Prince of Russellville; eight grandchildren, Christen, Julie, Sean, Matthew, Heather, Melissa, Katy, and Jason; four step grandchildre, Alicia, Josh, Kaleb, and Ray; 2 great grandchildren, Zakaree and Noah; two step great grandchildren, Jason and Brice; one brother, James "Dude" Hurst of Russellville; one sister, Carrie Lowana Hurst Hawk of Fort Smith.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the Humphrey Chapel officiated by Rev. Don Richie. Burial will be at the Nogo Cemetery at Witt Springs under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of Arkansas.
