Donald E. Brown, 97, of Hector, went home to be with The Lord Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Stella Manor Nursing Home in Russellville. The son of Jesse and May (Thomas) Brown, he was born March 6, 1922 in Hector. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II rising to the rank of Sergeant, and serving in the Ardennes Forrest, Central Europe, and Rhineland Offensive Campaigns. He received The Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle. He married Floy Eulean Goates on February 7th, 1946 after returning from the war. They were married for 73 years until Mrs. Brown’s death in March of this year. They are now reunited in Heaven, never to be separated again.
Donald E. worked for the United State Forestry Service as a maintenance man for many years. He was a good neighbor and always willing to do the “discing” for their gardens if they needed it. He raised cattle and enjoyed vegetable gardening, but even more in giving away his produce to his friends and neighbors.
His greatest accomplishments were in raising his family and commitment to his wife. He was a member of the Hector Free Will Baptist Church, American Legion and Hector Rural Fire Department. He also enjoyed fishing as family, farming, and work permitted. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Floy Eulean Goates Brown; his parents; an infant daughter; grandson, Carrell Hanna III; brother, Houston Brown; and sister, Bernice Matthews.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jeanne Laymon of Hector; two granddaughters, Carlotta Hanna of Russellville; Natalie Hill and husband Dustin of Russellville; six great grandchildren, Victoria Roberson, Kyler Roberson, Brock Hill, Anna Grace Hill, Dylan Hill, Katelyn Hill; and a special niece, Barbara Owens of Hector;
Pallbearers are Gary Rowlands, Bucky Snider, Darrell Rackley, Lloyd Rackley, Matt Owens, Bob Watson, and Dustin Hill. Honorary pallbearers are Lyle Aday.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Hector Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Latham officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Hector by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 9-10AM.
