Herman L. Sparks, 78, of Russellville, AR, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 2, 2019 at CHI St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock.
The son of Argie and Pearl Harris Sparks, he was born April 30, 1941 in Russellville, AR. Herman was a member of the Russellville High School Class of 1960 and joined the US Army after graduation, and later served for 6 years with the Arkansas Army National Guard's 217th Maintenance Battalion. He and Carolyn Tucker were married on January 20, 1961 in Russellville.
He worked for several years as a supervisor at the Firestone Tire & Rubber Plant in Russellville. In 1986 Herman founded the Sparks Insurance Agency and was a licensed Insurance Broker until his retirement.
He enjoyed quail hunting and coaching his sons’ baseball teams. With a love for gospel music and a desire to praise their Lord Herman and his wife Carolyn and their sons, Rodney and Barry formed the Sparks Family Gospel Quartet in the 1970’s and enjoyed many evenings singing gospel music at area churches.
He was a long-time member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School Classes and lead the congregation in singing. More recently he attended the Center Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Peggy Sparks.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Tucker Sparks; two sons, Rodney and wife, Karen, Russellville, Barry Sparks, Waldron; 7 grandchildren, Alicia Boyd and husband, Coy, Megan Weddle and husband, Kevin, Jacob Sparks and wife, Allie, Kevin Sparks, Jordan Sparks, Matthew Sparks,
Brianna Sparks; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Kathy Sweat, Russellville.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Eddie Rogers and Rev. Anthony Sparks will officiate. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
