Hertha Louise Shipley, 88, of Russellville, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. A daughter of Bloof and Inez (Loyd) Howerton, she was born March 30, 1931, in Hico, Texas. She married Almon Derrell Shipley, Jr., on October 25, 1947, in Hico, and spent her life as a homemaker, raising not only their children, but many other cousins, nieces and nephews as well. She was a member of the Dardanelle Missionary Baptist Church where she worshipped and served her Lord Jesus Christ. She loved fabric painting, enjoyed quilting, raising flowers and helped with 4-H student projects and activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband with whom she was together with for 59 years, A.D. Shipley, Jr.; and five brothers. She is survived by four sons: Keith Shipley (Kathy) of Atkins; Ronald Shipley (Janice) of Ada, OK; Bruce Shipley (Janan) of Pottsville; and Randy Shipley (Eva) of Russellville; two daughters: Karon Crites (Bobby) of Russellville; and Anita Blackford (Allen) of Russellville; a brother, Kenneth Howerton (Gladys) of Pottsville; and more than 100 other family members that include grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nephews & nieces.
A family-led service to celebrate Hertha’s life will be held at 10:00AM, Friday, September 27, 2019, at Humphrey Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Keith Shipley, Rev. Ronald Shipley, and Rev. Allen Blackford will officiate. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery in Pottsville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 pm, on Thursday, at the funeral home.
