Jackie Race, 74, of Russellville, died Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. The son of Wallace Charles Race and Naomi Edessa (Chasteen) Race, he was born February 10th, 1945 in Colorado Springs, CO. He married Diane Tennison, on August 22nd, 1981 at Pottsville. He was a United States Army Veteran and Christian by faith.
He was a retired police captain with the Russellville Police Department and also worked as a building inspector and code enforcement officer with the City of Russellville. He was a former member of the Police Pension Board and former president of the Pope County Riding Club. He was a talented carpenter, building several homes in the area and also enjoyed raising horses on his farm, leather working, wood working, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Race and Howard Race; and two sisters, Eleanor Wheeler and Barbara Race.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Diane Race of Russellville; two sons, Dustin Race and wife Mary Ellen of Atkins and Seth Race and wife Lee Anne, of Atkins; six grandchildren, Rylee Race, Porter Race, Tucker Race, Kallie Race, Raelynn Race and Sawyer Race; three brothers, Harry Race of Dover, William Race and wife Ann of Pottsville, and Tommy Race and wife Mary of Dardanelle; a sister, Mary Ann Watson and husband Richard of Hot Springs; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Race of Dardanelle and Kathy Graves and husband Ralph of Clarksville; brothers-in-law, Ardell Tennison and wife Mary of Dover, Doyle Tennison and wife Susie, and Teddy Tennison and wife Melissa, both of Pelsor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, October 12th, 2019 at First Assembly of God in Russellville with Pastor James Chronister and Pastor Pat Baze officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are current and former officers and employees of the Russellville Police Department. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Rogers-Rye Post #2283. North American Highland Piper Jimmy Bell will provide tunes on the bagpipe.
Burial will be private at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Gravel Hill by Humphrey Funeral Service.
