James E. Stanton, 86, of Russellville, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, at his home in Russellville. A son of James and Ella (Lay) Stanton, he was born September 27, 1932, in Russellville. He married Jeanne (Maggard) Stanton, on September 7, 1951, at Center Valley. Throughout his working career he was a sales agent in the lumber industry, most recently with Renae Simms Lumber Company of Dardanelle.
James and Jeanne worship with their faith family at the Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, where he played guitar in the praise and worship band. Playing music was the passion of his life, and he especially enjoyed country and country gospel music. He owned six guitars and played each week at the Red Barn for 7 years.
James was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry Stanton and Bobby Stanton. He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Jeanne; their daughter, Vicki Duvall (Jerry) of Dover; three grandchildren, Dustin Duvall (Alicia) and Chesley Esserman, both of Dover; and Tina Southard (Dustin) of Russellville; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Billy Stanton (Harriett) of Mountain View; a sister-in-law, Floy Stanton of Russellville; and many other nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Humphrey Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Chronister and Bro. Jack George will officiate. Burial will be at Old Baptist Cemetery in Russellville, by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:00 am on Tuesday.
