Judy Ann (Powley) Stokes, 68, of Russellville, AR went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 16, surrounded peacefully by her family in Mount Juliet, TN. Born February 20th, 1950, in Beaumont, TX, she was the daughter of the late Earl Eugene and Janice (Choate) Powley. Her family moved often and she attended 13 schools around the U.S. before graduating from Russellville High School in 1968. She was preceded in death by the great love of her life, Ronald Earl Stokes. Ronnie and "Jude" married in November of 1973 and were a legendary couple. We find comfort in knowing they are now reunited. Judy was a passionate, involved mother to her two daughters and sons-in-law, Stace, her “hero”, married to Johnathan Foster, and Sunne, her “joy”, married to Al McManus, all currently residing in Mount Juliet, Tenn. Survivors also include her older brother, John Powley, of Omaha, Nebraska; nephews Simon Powley and Michael Powley, and niece Sarah Weeks. She was also a proud “JuJu” to her 4 grandchildren; Abigail, Ronni, Zachary, & Ryder, and 6 great-nieces.
Judy was known for her feisty and entertaining sense of humor. If you ever wanted her truthful opinion on something, all you had to do was ask, knowing it came from a place of love. Being the daughter of a Baptist preacher, she grew up strong in the faith. As the heart of the Stokes family, Judy shaped their spirituality by her Christian example. She believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. Judy’s unstoppable will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through numerous cancers and health hardships. Because of this, we celebrate the countless borrowed time we enjoyed with her but it does not lessen the heartache her absence will leave.
Family and friends will gather Friday, February 22nd at 2:00 pm at Humphrey Funeral Home in Russellville, AR. There will be a chapel service with a visitation immediately following the service at the chapel. A family graveside service will later be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Powley, Simon Powley, Michael Powley, Johnathan Foster, Al McManus, and Sam Hindsman.
