Lena Virginia Hale, 102, of Dover, AR, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Russellville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The daughter of George and Bertha (Dickens) McGee, she was born November 11, 1916, in Dover. During World War II, she worked in California as one of the renown group of women known as “Rosie the Riveter,” involved in aircraft construction. She was a member of the Dover First Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed raising her grandchildren, gardening, and sewing.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband Charles Lewis Hale; her parents; two brothers, Haney McGee, and Lewis McGee; her sister, Louise Presley; a granddaughter, Sherri Rentfro; and her son, Robert Hale.
She is survived by her two sons, Bill Hale (Lucille), and Charles Hale, both of Dover; a brother, George McGee of Albuquerque, NM; her daughter-in-law, Gwen Hale of Dover; six grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Dover First Free Will Baptist Church, 356 East Camp St, Dover, AR 72837. Pastor Joey Hanna will officiate. Burial will be at Rushing Cemetery in Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm, on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
