Peggy L. Holbrook, 79, of Russellville, passed peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Russellville. The daughter of William Floyd McGee and Lila M. Smith, she was born July 11, 1939 in Russellville. Mrs. Holbrook was married to the late John Wesley Holbrook, Jr. During her teaching career in Elementary Education, she started the Kindergarten program for the Russellville School District. Peggy’s approach to teaching centered around encouragement, a smile, and forethought into a bright and productive future for Russellville’s children. Retiring after her 40-year career in teaching with the majority at Sequoyah Elementary, she touched over one thousand student’s lives.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Family Life Circle, the United Methodist Women, the Arkansas Teacher Association, the National Teacher Association, and was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma. She also was a former Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church in Russellville. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, knitting, traveling, and especially spending time with family.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Holbrook, Jr.; her mother and step-father, Lila & Paul Smith; her father, William Floyd McGee; and a sister, Linda Jensen.
Survivors include her daughter, Sabrina Holbrook; granddaughter, Ashtin Pennington and husband, Nathan; great-grandson, Hudson Pennington; all of Russellville; cousins, Atsuko Harrell and Hanna Harrell, both of Dallas, TX; nephew, Craig Jensen of Michigan and numerous extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, July 1, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Russellville. Visitation will be from 3-5PM, on Sunday, at First United Methodist Church in Russellville. Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
