Rex Allen Humbarger

September 10, 1926 ~ April 7, 2019 (age 92)

Rex Allen Humbarger, 92, departed Sunday, April 7, 2019, at his home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The son of Allen and Hazel Humbarger, he was born September 10, 1926, in Muncie, Indiana.  He spent 8 years in the US Navy and received training that helped with his career at Indiana Bell.  He married Betty Sue Chambers on February 1, 1974, and gained 3 step children. He and Betty started a horse riding stable in Florida when he retired from Indiana Bell.  Later in full retirement, they moved to Hot Springs where he lived out the rest of his life.  He enjoyed fixing anything and everything.  Rex always had a joke ready for anyone who would listen which prompted the phrase “Humbarger Humor”. He was a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian and knew that he would be greeted in heaven by those that had gone before him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Miriam Streich, Eleanor Hotmire, Emogene Smith, and Rachel Hotmire and a grandson, Eric Bewley.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife, two brothers, Ross and Byron Humbarger of Muncie, Indiana, a step-son, Michael David Bewley and wife Melody of London, Arkansas, a step-daughter, Deborah Sue Bireley and husband Mike of Terre Haute, Indiana, a step-son Carl Dwain Bewley and wife Debbie of Russellville, Arkansas, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Price Cemetery in London, with military honors provided by the Rogers-Rye Post 2283 of the VFW.  Rev. Rick Smith will officiate.
