Reverend Roy Goates Jr., 87, of Dover, went home to be with The Lord Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. The son of Roy Sr. and Annie (Wilson) Goates, he was born November 12, 1931 in Scottsville. He married Virginia Sherman on August 12th, 1950 in Dover. He was a minister with the Assemblies of God, ministering to the River Valley for over 40 years. He worked for Bibler Lumber as a foreman until his retirement. He was former member of the Dover Rural Fire Department, and a founding board member of Friendship Community Care, Inc. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Regina Lou Goates; grandson, Bryan Lee Neal; his parents; two infant brothers; and brother-in-law, Bob McAlister.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia Goates; his son, Sherman Goates and wife Heather, all of Dover; two daughters, Jabonnia Ruth Pearson and husband Douglas of London and Beverly Ann Neal of Dover; seven grandchildren, Craig Neal and wife Shelley of Dover, Bonnita Bates and husband Greg of London, Scott Pearson and wife Jessica of London, Morgan Jackson and husband Hunter of Fayetteville, Hayley Goates and Alan Dilks of Dover, Paxton Anderson and husband Hunter, of Russellville, Kendall Goates and wife Kaylee of Conway; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Joyce McAlister of Knoxville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. Rev. Roy Chisum will officiate. Burial will be at Goates Cemetery in Scottsville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Pallbearers are Sherman Goates, Kendall Goates, Douglas Pearson, Scott Pearson, Craig Neal, and Andy Neal. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Bates, Ty Bates, Hunter Jackson, Alan Dilks, and Hunter Anderson. Visitation will be from 6-7PM, on Friday, at the funeral home.
