Elder William Kelley Roach Jr., 91, of Russellville, AR, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. A son of William, Sr. and Jewel (Ramsey) Roach, he was born September 18, 1927, at Hickory Ridge, AR. He graduated with a Master’s degree in theology from Missionary Baptist Seminary & Institute, and completed doctoral work just short of a dissertation. For more than 68 years, Elder Roach pastored churches in Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Louisiana; while also serving his denomination’s local association as moderator. He was a faithful and beloved member of the Victory Missionary Baptist Church where his passion for preaching & teaching the Gospel message of Jesus Christ was paramount. He enjoyed gardening, and engaging words of inspiration and spiritual insight through social media.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Hazel (Gray) Roach; his late wife, Isabelle Roach; his parents; two sisters, Jesselyn Dye and Violet Roach; three brothers, George Roach, Herbert Wesley Roach, and Vernon S. Roach.
He is survived by two daughters, Betty Gail Utsler (Warren) of Garfield, AR; and Brenda Sue Richardson (Kelvin) of Texarkana, AR; three sons, William Charles Roach (Becky) of Heber Springs, AR; Roger Dale Roach (Cathie) of Russellville; and Kelley Hugh Roach (Sonya) of Russellville, AR; Isabelle’s children: Bill Richardson (Katy), Mary Beth Gordon (Bill) and the late Jan Veazey; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and hundreds of church members throughout the family of faith.
A service to honor the life & ministry of William Roach, Jr., and to glorify the God he so faithfully served will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 517 Reasoner Lane, Russellville, AR. Kelvin Richardson will officiate and ministry sons, Chuck Roach, Kelley Roach and Will Diggs will assist. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Russellville, by Humphrey Funeral Service.
