Alpha "Bud" Humphrey

September 29, 1921 ~ August 10, 2017 (age 95)
Alpha "Bud" Humphrey, 95, of Glenwood, AR, spent his lifetime in Hollis, and went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Glenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Glenwood,AR.

The son of Walter and Mayme Blythe Humphrey, he was born September 29,
1921 in Hollis, AR. He was a deacon at the Valley Home Baptist Church, where he also served in years past as Church Treasurer. He was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a Masters Degree in Elementary Secondary Education, investing 44 years of his life as a teacher and principle in the Perryville School District. He taught in a two-room school house in Hollis.

Mr. Humphry married Geralene Virgie Humphrey, on November 7, 1943 at Hollis, Arkansas, and they both shared teaching careers in public education. His other accomplishments included songwriting, poetry and was author of the award-winning poem, "The Helping Hands." He served on the Board of Directors for the Soil & Water Conservation, Perryville,
AR.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Geralene Humphrey; a son, Tony (Brenda) of Hot Springs; a granddaughter, Tonya Johnson (James) of Shawano, WI; a great grandson, Jamison Johnson of Shawano, Wi; and a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Pallbearers include: Larry Humphrey, Junior Crain, J.C. Crain, and David Grisham. Honorary pallbearers are: Jimmy & Vera Scott, members of Valley Home Baptist Church, and Hammond Missionary Baptist Church, and Glenwood Health.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 12, 2017, from 12:00PM - 2:00PM, with the funeral service following at 2:00PM, at Valley Home Baptist Church, 1166 Highway 314, in Plainview, AR. Burial will be at Nooner Cemetery in Hollis under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service, Russellville. Rev. Jimmy Scott and Larry Humphrey will be officiating.
