She was a member of the Connect Church where she volunteered in the nursery for many years.

During World War II she moved to Lawrence, Kansas and she worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Works, Hercules Powder making artillery ammunition to support the war effort. Following the war, she returned to Russellville and went to work at the Palace Drug Store (location of the present C&D Drug Store). Bettye loved to sew and made many of the clothes for herself and her five children. As Bettye got older she loved to crochet. She had a green thumb and could grow most anything from garden vegetables to flowers to shrubs. She loved being outside planting new flowers and watering her plants or yard. She would rather be outside doing anything than staying inside. Bettye was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family. She loved planning family reunions and always had games to play for everyone.

Bettye loved going antique shopping with her three sisters or girlfriends. They would plan a few days in Branson going shopping and then go to a show. Laughter was always present on these trips!
