Charles M. Mitchell, 88, a resident of Russellville, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville.
He was born September 3, 1928, in Newport, Rhode Island to Charles Mervin and Julia U. Segerson Mitchell. He married Margaret Ann O'Brien on April 8, 1971, in Taunton, Massachusetts. He earned a PhD from Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts and was a professor at Arkansas Tech University for 20 years. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and enjoyed wood carving and wood working, reading, traveling, sports, especially baseball and was a former pilot. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother and sister-in-law, Joseph L. and Elizabeth A. Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Margaret A. Mitchell of Russellville; two nephews and their wives, Joseph L. Mitchell Jr. and Denise of Norton, Massachusetts and Kevin C. and Cheryl Mitchell of Plantation, Florida; two nieces and their husbands, Elizabeth A. and Bill Wachenfeld of Pennington, New Jersey and Maripat and Rick Raiter of Winthrop, Massachusetts; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Jack E. Sidler officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Section of Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
