Cora was born December 30, 1922 to John D. and Cassandra Flannery Nordin, one of ten children. Her London, AR schooling prepared her for a full life and enhanced her clerical skills learned at ATU in Russellville. Serving the military as a Women's Air Corp enlisted soldier during World War II, she interacted with women from across the nation. She worked in the photography lab.
Cora married the light of her life, Ben Wayne Banks, March 20, 1949, at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Russellville, AR. She was the mother of two sons, Robert Wayne Banks and Charles Stanley Banks.
Her time was occupied with housekeeping and helping Wayne on their cattle and chicken ranch. Her hobbies were flower gardening and quilting. She also took art classes and enjoyed painting still life flowers and other subjects. Interest in Yell County history became her passion in helping Wayne research its history as well as state history.
She was a member of the Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church near Augsburg, AR, and attended New Hope Baptist Church with her husband for many years. As a member of the Easter Star #589, she served as Worthy Matron and Esther primarily. Cora was a member of the Yell County Historical Society and a lifetime member of the American Legion post #20.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, and son, Charlie; sister Cathryn D. Taylor; a brother William Jay Nordin; sisters Ruth Amanda Chenowith, Josie Evelyn Richardson, Laura Isabel Miller, Dorothy Elizabeth Nordin, Frances Doyle Gebbia, and Lydia Pauline Dacus.
Her surviving relatives include her son, Robert W. Banks (Linda); a grandson, Ben Thomas Banks; a great granddaughter, Bethany Cheyenne Banks; a great grandson, Clayton Thomas Banks; a sister, Mary Naomi Newbern and several nephews and nieces will miss her in passing . In her twilight years, she often related stories of her life. Those stories will be sorely missed as well as her presence.
The family wishes to express our appreciation to Dr. Keith Ison, Dr. Thomas Snead, the staff of Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, John Ed Chambers Memorial Hospital, and Mitchell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Danville, AR.
