Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Lou Henning

Geraldine (Gerry) Lou Henning was born January 26, 1941, in Truman, Minnesota, a daughter of Ewald and Alma Wolter. Gerry was made a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on February 16, 1941, at St. James Lutheran Church, Northrop, Minnesota. Gerry was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 3, 1955, also at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. O. H. Cloeter. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:4, "Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

Gerry attended elementary school at St. James Lutheran School in Northrop, Minnesota through the eighth grade and then attended Truman High School, Truman, Minnesota where she graduated in 1959. She attended Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota for two years and then Concordia College, Seward, Nebraska for one year. Gerry was a Lutheran School teacher at Zion Lutheran School, Mayer, Minnesota and also other surrounding grade schools in Carver County, Minnesota. It was in Mayer that Gerry met her future husband, Jim.

Gerry married James Leonard Henning of Mayer, Minnesota on August 16, 1964, at St. James Lutheran Church. Together they lived in Mayer and Waconia, Minnesota where three sons were born to them. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. In 1975, Gerry moved with her family to rural Truman, Minnesota where they farmed for her Uncle Henry Schultz. In 1976, Gerry and Jim moved to the farmhouse across the road from her parents in rural Granada, Minnesota where they farmed with Ewald and Alma. Gerry and her family were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Truman. Gerry also lived in Fairmont, Minnesota. In 1987 Gerry moved to Russellville, Arkansas with her husband Jim who was transferred to the Con-Agra plant. Gerry retired after 20 years from the Russellville School District where she worked as a Baker in the Cafeteria. Gerry was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Russellville where she was active in the LWML and served as President of the Arkansas River Valley Zone; and instrumental in getting the Bell Choir started. In 2006 Gerry moved back to Minnesota to help take care of her mother Alma. While there Gerry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minnesota. In 2013 she and Jim returned to Russellville, buying a house just two lots West of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Quilting Ladies, Bell Choir and served on the Board of Stewardship.

Gerry received her crown of everlasting life when God called her out of this veil of tears to Himself in heaven on September 14, 2016, at St. Mary's Regional Hospital, Russellville, Arkansas at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 19 days.

She is survived by her husband James Henning, Russellville, Arkansas; three sons, the Rev. Timothy (Janet) Henning, Russellville; John (Dottie) Henning, Las Vegas, Nevada; Douglas (Stephanie) Henning, Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Christopher, Angel and Dawn Henning of Russellville; Krystal Henning of Morrilton, Arkansas; Hunter and Hannah Henning, Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister Charlotte (Bob) Miller of Plymouth, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Mavis Miller of Arlington, Minnesota; two nephews, Jason and Matt (Gina) Miller and two nieces, Pam (Kent) Schoer and Lori (Gary) Steinhagen all in Minnesota; an aunt, Margaret Roe, Auburn, California; many cousins and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ewald and Alma Wolter; her parents-in-laws, Leonard Henning & Elmer and Anna Mielke; and a brother-in-law, David Miller.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Timothy A. Rake officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Lutherville under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Active pallbearers will be James, John, Christopher, the Rev. Tim, Douglas and Hunter Henning. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard and JoAnn Trainer, Anita Harris and Dean Lewis.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Russellville. The family will also receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 500 North Cumberland Ave., Russellville, Arkansas 72801; the Lutheran Women's Missionary League; or Lutheran Hour Ministries/the Lutheran Laymen's League.

Jesus says, "I am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die." (John 11:25-26)
