Rev. J. W. McEntyre, 79, a resident of Clarksville, formerly of Pottsville, died Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville.
He was born February 19, 1937, in Pottsville, to Thomas and Mary Abney McEntyre. He married Wanda Lee Osborn on September 1, 1967, at Waldron and was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a founding member of Members in Christ Association in Springdale and was a member of the Westside Full Gospel Church, where he has pastored since 1993. He loved his church family and was a great friend to many. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a loving husband and father. He also enjoyed fishing and working on the church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ganeva McEntyre; and a brother, Thomas McEntyre Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Wanda; three daughters, Paula McEntyre (Jack) of Ozark; Teresa Balanger of Russellville and Pam Balanger of Russellville; five granddaughters, Julie Vaught, Pam Christian (Todd), Miranda Williamson, Ava and Evi; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nina Womack.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017, at Westside Full Gospel Church in Clarksville with the Rev. Bob Branch, the Rev. Louis Bennett and Bro. David Rayburn officiating. Burial will be in West Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hartman under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers will be Mike and Doyle McEntyre, Lawrence Mooney, Harold Dixon, Jacob Boyd and Devoe Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Westside Full Gospel Church.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
