Mr. James Murrel "Slim" Collins

April 5, 1939 ~ March 2, 2017 (age 77)
James Murrel "Slim" Collins, 77, a resident of Dover, died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville.

He was born April 5, 1939, at Ben Hur, to Bruce and Martha Standridge Collins. He married Gwyn Earley on February 20, 1964, at Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a truck driver for Tyson Foods for 38 years and also worked as a shoe cobbler at Smith Shoe Shop for over 25 years. He served on the board of the Martin Township Fire Department for more than 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Arthur, Esley, Howard, Clyde and Dyke Collins; and two sisters, Martha Lou Collins and Ruby Norton.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gwyn Collins of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Roxanne Collins of Dover; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kim Collins Schnitzius of Dover and Stacy and Malcolm Cox of Hartman; four grandchildren, ReBekka Collins of Dover, Cameron Schnitzius of Dover, Joseph Cox of Hartman and Drake Collins of Dover; three great-grandchildren, Derrick Marshall of Fayetteville, Ashlyn Collins of Dover and Collin Whitbey of Dover; a brother, John Collins of Ben Hur; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Polly Chisum of Ben Hur, Blanche Hollowoa of Russellville and Pauline and Clifford Harmon of Witts Springs; three sisters-in-law, Irene Collins of Ben Hur, Virginia Lucene Collins of Snoball and LeVeda Collins of Hector; numerous nephews and nieces; and other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Harrison Cemetery at Ben Hur with the Rev. Ben Baughman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Mitchell, Stanley and Clyde Collins, Jerry Lynn Baughman, Ronnie Lee Smith and Doug Chisum. Honorary pallbearers will be his remaining nephews and his grandsons, Cameron, Joseph and Drake.
