Mr. Joe D. Bull

November 11, 1923 ~ March 29, 2017 (age 93)
Joe D. Bull, 93, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. The son of Lester and Beulah (Simpson) Bull, he was born November 11, 1923 in Mansfield, AR. He graduated from Arkansas Polytechnic College with an Associate's Degree and he graduated with a Master's of Agriculture Degree, a Master's of Education Degree, and Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Arkansas. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and served in the Middle East during the war. After returning home from the war, he married Nan Hudson on May 30, 1948.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Russellville, Bereans Sunday School class, the Fishers of Men, and the Masons.

Joe taught agriculture at Fouche Valley for two years and Waldron for four years and then served for 29 years as the Hector Public Schools superintendent. During his tenure, he was instrumental in connecting the municipal water and gas to the town of Hector and Hector Public Schools, which allowed the students to learn with basic necessities.

Joe enjoyed camping, fishing, bird hunting, reading, gardening, and especially watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball. He also was an avid story teller always capturing the imagination of his audience.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Brenda Lawrence; and siblings, Simpson Bull, John Bull, and Barbara Lee Tarkington.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Nan Bull of Russellville; two children, Sandra Wright (Steve) of Tifton, GA and Rhonda Stephens (Jim) of Tahlequah, OK;
Brother, L.M. Bull Jr of Pocatello, ID; son-in-law, Roger Lawrence of Morrilton;
grandchildren, Melissa Wright Markey (Carey) of Athens, GA, Erin Lawrence Andrews (Eric) of Bryant, Bryan Lawrence (Whitney) of Bryant, Blake Wright (Lindsey) of Sylvester, GA; great-grandchildren, Ethan Andrews, Anna Andrews, Luke Andrews, Garrett Markey, Gavin Markey, McKenzie Wright, Davis Wright, Taylor Wright, Claire Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Humphrey Chapel. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00PM, on Friday, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Bryan Lawrence, Blake Wright, Roger Lawrence, Eric Andrews, Carey Markey, David Bull, Tim Adelman, and Al Adelman. Honorary pallbearers are Fishers of Men and Kovel Clutts.
