Judith L. Matthews, 71, of Russellville, died Monday, July 4, 2016 at Arkansas
Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. The daughter of James and Lyla
Zimmerli Wing, she was born October 6, 1944 in Jackson, MN. Judith received a
Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Mankato University and a Master of
Science degree in English at ATU. She married Freddie Matthews, on July 26,
1980 at Bethany, Minnesota. She taught at Le Sueur Elementary in Le Sueur,
Minnesota, Renton, Washington, and in Portland, IN. After moving to
Russellville she taught at Oakland Heights Elementary School and Russellville
Middle School until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed knitting, crochet,
country western dancing. She was a member of the River Valley Quilters,
Arkansas Valley Arts and Crafts Club and Professional Arts and Crafts
Association of Arkansas and the Arkansas Education Association. Judith was a
member of First United Methodist, the United Methodist Women, and the Lois
Griffin Sunday School Class. She enjoyed knitting prayer shawls with the Family Circle Group at the church. She was preceded in death by
her father and a brother, Merlin Wing.
She is survived by her husband, Freddie Matthews, Russellville; son, Jason Hinsley Russellville; mother, Lyla Zimmerli Wing, Minnesota; sisters, Verjean Skrovey, Minnesota, Becky Gilbert, Indiana, Sue Winter, South Dakota, Louise Janssen, Minnesota, Elaine Nickel, Washington; brothers, Larry Wing, Florida, James Wing, Texas; sister-in-law, Wynona "Sissy" Barringer, Hot Springs.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00AM, Friday, July 8, 2016 at The Chapel at
First United Methodist Church under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
Rev. Roy Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately
following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Humane Society or
