Lester R. Barnes, 92, of Russellville, finished his race and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. The son of William and Betty Lou (Russell) Barnes, he was born July 22, 1923 in Roland, OK. He married Mae Nichols on April 1st, 1950 at Fort Smith.
Lester graduated from the Missionary Baptist Seminary and was a member of the Hatley Missionary Baptist Church and the American Baptist Association. During his 56 year career, he pastored 13 churches and preached 71 revivals and brought many to know the Lord.
Lester enjoyed vegetable gardening, telling jokes, baseball and especially spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Taylor Barnes; and 7 siblings.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Mae Barnes of Russellville; two children, Kenneth Barnes and wife, Kathy of Russellville and Glenda Barnes of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Christopher Barnes of Russellville, Matt Barnes and wife, Michelle of Cave City, Kenny Barnes of Fayetteville, Shana Sievers and husband, James of Rogers and Erika Dennett and husband, Christian of Huntsville; nine great-grandchildren, Kaylee Barnes, Abby Barnes, Tucker Barnes, LJ Wing, Frankie Wing, Silas Dennett, Eli Dennett, Wyatt Sievers and Sadie Sievers; siblings, Billy, Teddy and Betty; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Rest Haven Memorial Park by Humphrey Funeral Service. Pastor Eddie Rogers will officiate.
