Mattie Elaine Dale, 103, of Kennett, Missouri, formerly of Russellville, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Southhaven Assisted Living in Kennett. The daughter of Charlie and Minnie Eubanks Wait, she was born October 10, 1914, in Dover.

She was a graduate of Dover High School and after receiving a teaching certificate she taught school for several years in the Dover area. She and William Clint Dale were married on February 27, 1942. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Ray Lee Lumber Supply in Russellville.

Mattie was a long time and active member of the West Side Church of Christ in Russellville, where she taught the Ladies Bible Class, and well into her 80's began working with the Lads to Leader's Program which recognized her as an "Honorary Grandparent". She also was presented for several years with the "Centurion of Scripture" Award, which involved the memorizing of 100 verses of the Bible.

Mattie believed deeply in the value of Christian education and she was a charter member of the Associated Women for Harding, where she used her persuasive powers to raise funds for student scholarships and to counsel many young Christians regarding the value of receiving a Christian education at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. She was honored in 2015 by the University when she was presented the "Worthy Woman Award" by the University President of the University.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Clint Dale, her parents, and seven siblings, including an infant sister, Vera Wait; sisters, Sue Vinson, Mary Dell Karnes, Nancy Kreisher; brothers, Orion Wait, and Everett Wait.
Mattie is survived by a daughter, Donna Louise Smith (David), Kennett, MO; son, Lyndal Wayne Dale (Loretta), West Memphis, Arkansas; a granddaughter, Lori Dale Bratton (Jason), West Memphis, Arkansas; four grandsons, Landon Taylor Dale (Jennifer), Parker, Colorado; Layton Clint Dale (Summer), Dallas, Texas; Matthew David Smith (Kelly), Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Mark Allen Smith, Little Rock, Arkansas; and 7 great grandchildren; Blake Dale, Grant Dale, Cara Dale, Cameron Dale, Ansley Dale, Macy Dale, Emerson Dale.


Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 29, 2018, at
Humphrey Chapel. Burial will be at North New Hope Cemetery in Dover, AR, by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, on Saturday, at the funeral home.
