Mrs. Nancy Jane Grant

January 22, 1934 ~ January 22, 2016 (age 82)
Nancy Grant, of Russellville, Arkansas passed away on her 82nd birthday, surrounded by her loving family and in the comfort of hospice care after complications from a series of strokes. Nancy was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1934. She was the second of six children born to Henry and Louise (Snodgrass) Bogardus and graduated from Springfield High School. Nancy married Gerald E. (Pete) Grant, also from Springfield, in 1953. Their son Kent was born in 1958.

A beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Nancy will always be remembered for her love of family, her talent as an artist, her wonderful sense of humor and the ability to tell a good story, her love for travel, books, solving puzzles and challenging games. The Grant home and those of many of her friends and relatives are filled with paintings by Nancy that reflected her curiosity about people, objects and places and her talent to capture their likenesses as well as their spirit. Most recently, she was an active member of the River Valley Arts Center and the Hoe and Hope Garden Club where she used her creative talents in the community.

Nancy and Pete, a Mechanical Engineer, have been partners throughout their 62 year marriage, enjoying all that life has to offer - travelling extensively; creating, designing and building homes together; volunteering and supporting the communities they lived in and contributing to worthy causes. With Pete, she was an avid and curious traveler to most of the continents and frequently to Europe. They lived in Bruxelles, Belgium for several years where Pete was an executive with Volvo.

Nancy was always a gracious hostess to friends, family and colleagues. She loved to entertain and to share her home wherever she lived. Among the places Pete and Nan have called home were Peoria, Oswego and Libertyville Illinois; St. Joseph, Michigan; Gates Mills, Ohio; and most recently Russellville, Arkansas where they moved from Belgium when Pete retired in 1993.

Nancy is survived by her husband Pete, son Kent Grant and wife Amy of Tucson, Arizona, Grandson Garrett Grant of Bryan, Texas, and Granddaughter Kelsie Grant of Boston, Massachussetts; Sisters JoAnn (Bogardus) Thrasher of Springfield, Illinois and Jeanne Bogardus of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; a Brother Rodger Bogardus and wife Nikki of Naples, Fla.; Brother-In-Law Kelly Grant and wife Karen of Springfield, Illinois and Sister-In-law Joyce Bogardus, also of Springfield. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Louise (Snodgrass) Bogardus and two brothers, David Bogardus and Michael Bogardus, all of Springfield, Ill.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the excellent staff at the UAMS Intensive Care Unit in Little Rock and the staff at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Humphrey Chapel with Reverend Don Erwin will officiating.
