Opal Waldo

July 10, 2017 ~ December 3, 2017
Opal Waldo, 97, of Dover, passed peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Russellville Nursing & Rehab in Russellville. The daughter of James and Cora Bryant Light, she was born July 10, 1920 in the Johnson County community of Denny. She and Garland Waldo were married on April 9, 1938 in Lamar.


She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening and story-telling, especially with her grandchildren, who enjoyed hearing the stories of her growing up on Silex Mountain in Johnson County. She was a long-time member of the Dover Assembly of God.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Harrison Waldo; her parents; son, James P. Waldo, infant son, James Harrison Waldo; grandson, Gregory Dale Waldo; granddaughter, Lori Smith.


She is survived by two Sons, Carrol L. Waldo (Carol Sue), Birmingham, Alabama, Billy D. Waldo (Pat), Russellville; four daughters, Glenna June Robinson (Kenny), Cape Girardeau, MO, Linda K. Carter, Dover, Susan E. Hulsey (Bob), Bonneterre, MO, Pamela Barton (Dr. Dale Barton); 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; A brother, Jim Light (Virginia), Rogers.


Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Owens Cemetery. Mr. Jim Bob Humphrey will officiate. Burial will be by Humphrey Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home, 220 John Babish Lane, Russellville, AR 72801 or to the Owens Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 2435 Old Highway 7, Dover, AR 72837.
