Dr. William Scarborough
Dr. William Scarborough, 98, of Clarksville, AR, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at
Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville, AR. The son of Audley and
Polly Dunlap Scarborough, born September 13, 1917 in Clarksville, AR.
He was a University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences L.R. graduate, a United
States Army Air Forces Veteran of World War II and a Medical Doctor with
his own private practice for 23 years in Clarksville, AR, and 16 years in Panama Canal Zone. His accomplishments included building his first
amateur crystal radio, obtained the John Harris Fellow of Rotary award, a medal
and a certificate of appreciation from the Panama Canal Commission. "Billy Bob" was a HAM radio operator since 1936, a member of American Legion, lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, birdwatcher, and enjoyed traveling. Preceding him in death were his wife Marjorie; an infant son; a grandson; and two brothers.
He is survived by two sons William R. Scarborough Jr.(Kary) of Oak Ridge, TN, and Rev. Jimmy Scarborough of Clarksville, AR; two daughters, Jo Anne Martin of North Little Rock and Maradee Stroupe of Clarksville; eight grandchildren, Steve (Marianne) Scarborough Middletown, OH, Ginna (Kevin) Bird of Charlestown, WV, Michelle (Scott) Shellabarger of Little Rock, Margaret (Joe) Silva of San Antonio, TX, Bill (Savannah) Stroupe of Daly City, CA, Terry(Gwen) Scarborough of Kelowna, B.C. Canada, Kenneth (Valerie) Martin of Sherwood, and Caley Rose of Victoria, B.C. Canada; fourteen great grandchildren.
A family will conducted memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 09, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville.
