David Leon McDonough, 72, of Dover, died Friday, January 20, 2023, at St. Mary's Regional Med Ctr in Russellville. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the J. Herman Humphrey Dignity Cremation Center. A family-led memorial service with full military honors will be held Friday, January 27, at 2:00PM, at The Refuge Church in Russellville, with Pastor Scott Findley officiating.
The son of Lattie and Barbara (Long) McDonough, he was born November 9, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married Carla Vivian (Cunningham) McDonough, on December 31, 1976 in Joplin. Missouri.
David was preceded in death by his parents. His survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carla; three sons: Ian McDonough (Crystal) of Fruita, Colorado; John Abbott (Mandy) of Kansas City, Kansas; and David B.C. McDonough (Sarah) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; a daughter, Shira Willis of Carthage, Missouri; two brothers: Jeffery B. McDonough (Char) of Bentonville, Arkansas; and Ronald R. McDonough (Carol) of Russellville; and nine grandchildren.
David had a variety of careers but mostly enjoyed working as a software consultant in several industries. He served our country for 23 years with the Army and Navy. He was a paramedic for 10 years in Missouri, and with his great love of guns served as an NRA instructor with area gun clubs. He loved animals, especially horses and his canine companion he lovingly called "D.” Video games occupied lots of his leisure time, as well as reading science fiction, Mandalorin role-play, fishing, duck hunting, and just being with his wife & family.
Raised in a ministry family where his father was an itinerant minister, David’s faith grew to be his greatest value in life. He was active in the worship & ministry of The Refuge Church in Russellville where he insisted family belonged.
