James Frederick “Fred” Laymon, 92, of Russellville, died Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Legacy Heights Nursing Home in Russellville. A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Paul Northcutt officiating. Burial is under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
The son of James and Martha Matilda (Reed) Laymon, he was born April 30, 1930, in Pottsville, Arkansas. He married Elisabeth Nicole (Magin) Laymon, on May 24, 1966, at Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Daniel, Henry & Jesse Laymon; and two sisters: Cora Gamble and Nellie Lee.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elisabeth; two daughters: Elinor Meigs (David) of Phoenix, Arizona; and Elizabeth Claffey (Peter) of Augusta, Georgia; four grandchildren: Katy Meller (Sam), Pete Claffey, Rebecca Claffey and Jennifer Claffer; and two great grandchildren: Miriam Meller and Elizabeth Meller.
Fred was a 21-year career Veteran with the United States Army serving during the Korean War era in Supply Logistics. He was a great lover of classic country music, writing hundreds of songs which have been recorded by over 100 country music artists across the country. He enjoyed fishing, growing an annual vegetable garden, and playing his guitar.
