James "Buddy" A. Paine

January 14, 1936 ~ October 13, 2020 (age 84)

Obituary

James "Buddy" Arthur Paine, 84, of Russellville, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville.  The son of Charles and Mildred (Fewell) Paine, he was born January 14, 1936, in Little Rock, at the MacArthur Museum in the same room as Douglas MacArthur.  He was a veteran with the National Guard and was activated during the Little Rock Central High crisis.

Buddy’s first date with Martha (Ornsbey) Paine was a fishing trip, and he never “fished” again.  They married on August 20, 1966 and have enjoyed the past 54 years together. He was a retired Engineer with the Arkansas Department of Transportation after 42 years of service.  He was a member of the Arkansas State Bowlers Hall of Fame, having bowled a perfect score of 300 on three separate occasions in competition and a 700 series.  That led to his nickname on the lanes as, “King.” He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers and loved camping, hunting and fishing.  Buddy & Martha loved worshipping and serving Christ together with their faith family at Second Baptist Church of Russellville, where Buddy would always be seen in Sunday school class and greeting folks in the hallways.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Martha Paine; a brother Gary B. Paine of Little Rock; and a sister Jackie M. Parker of Little Rock as well as several nieces and nephews. Buddy and Martha never had children of their own, but chose to raise Fred &Teresa Ornsbey, Jonathan, Donald, and Ronald Davis as if they were their natural children.
