Joseph Woodrow Applegate, 104, of Dover, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. Mary's Reg. Med. Center in Russellville, AR. The son of Newton and Lucy Jane Davis Applegate, he was born March 20, 1918, in Pleasant View Community. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of World War II and a retired District Supervisor with Arkansas Highway and Transportation Dept. He was Mayor of Dover for 2 years and was a member of the American Legion, Lifetime Member of Dover Masonic Lodge and a member of Dover First United Methodist Church where he served in various church leadership roles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading, extensive travel including every county or parish in the lower 48 states and Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Nell Applegate his parents; his sister, Inez Newton; a nephew, William Raymond Applegate; and four nieces.
Joseph is survived by seven nieces, Jane McGhghy, California; Doris Applegate, California; Freida Davenport (Jim), Russellville; Jane Chilton, Dover; Nadine Ramsey (Ronnie), Clarksville; Suzie Wetzel (Carl), Dover; Charlene Wyatt, Dover; a nephew, Charles Leonard Elliott and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Phillip Collie II and Rev. Michael Galloway will officiate. Burial will be at McFadden Cemetery in Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
