Kenneth “Ken” Wayne Smith, 84, of Texarkana, Texas, formerly of Russellville, died Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Retreat At Kenwood in Texarkana. The son of Walter and Vivian Inez (Hughes) Smith, he was born June 16, 1937, in Russellville.
Having earned his Master’s Degree in Education, Ken became a Math teacher with Knox Nelson High School, formerly the Arkansas Boys Reform School. Additionally, he owned a book store, where he collected and sold thousands of books, record albums, cassette tapes, CDs and VHS tapes of old movies. He was an Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America and was a die-hard Arkansas Razorback fan.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife, Nan Ricker Smith. He leaves a large family that includes his sister, Shelia Beale (Alan) of Merritt Island, Florida; his brother-in-law, Joe Ricker (Diane) of Texarkana; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Plainview United Methodist Church. Brian Ricker and Lloyd Qualls will officiate. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Plainview by Humphrey Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to Plainview United Methodist Church, 411 W 5th St, Plainview, AR 72857.
