Leland “Lee” Campbell, 73, of Russellville, AR, went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 27, 2020 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. The son of James Raymond “Ray” and Adelene (Harral) Campbell, he was born February 21, 1947 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born again in 1958, at Centerton Baptist Church. He was a Bentonville High School graduate where he played several sports and set the record for high jump at 5’10”. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Arkansas Tech University. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, riding horses, and swimming and hiking at scout camp. He especially enjoyed getting together with family at Christmas time.
During his career as a teacher he taught for the Elkins School District, McDonald County, MO, and Dardanelle Schools. He also coached Women’s Basketball and Track. He especially enjoyed teaching Civics to the freshman class. He also was a member of the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master for troops in Missouri and Arkansas. He and his mother were the founders of the River Valley Driving Education School, the first driving school in the area. He did contract work for several years with ANO and Bechtel. He is a member of the Mission Bautista Iglesia where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Rodriguez Mendoza Campbell of Russellville; his son, Shawn Campbell and wife Diane of Bentonville; his daughter, Amber Campbell of Russellville; two grandchildren, Wesley Campbell and Hayli Kate Campbell; step-sons: Manuel and wife Claudia Mendoza, Antonio and wife Norma Mendoza, and Jose and wife Noemi Mendoza all of Russellville; step-grandchildren, Josue, Samuel, Andres, Cesar, Ruth, José Ángel, Génesis, Neymar and Emanuel; and numerous extended family.
