Lou Vesta Steele, 93, of Dover died Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Legacy Heights Nursing Home. The daughter of James “Matt” and Mary Elizabeth Peter Standridge, she was born October 8, 1927 in Pope County. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Assembly of God where one of her greatest passions and joys was worshipping her Lord and reading her Bible. Vesta, as she is commonly known, enjoyed quilting, raising a garden and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ernie Clayton and Harold Steele; sisters Cardelia Miller, May Standridge, Iva Crow, Zelma Clayton Magby, Sara Ford, and Nancy Standridge. Brothers John Standridge, Willis Standridge, Robert Standridge, and Ervin Standridge. A daughter, Helen Clayton Dennis and Bobbie Dennis; a son-in-law Clyde Collins.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, Vernon Clayton of Dover; a daughter, Virginia Collins and John Campbell of Dover; grandchildren: Sherie (Doug) Chisum of Hector, Melissa Noe of Gilmore, TX; Crystal (Dennis) Sisco of Atkins; Clyde (Carol) Collins of Dardanelle. Great grandchildren: Bridget and Cody Gumm of Hector, April and Andy Cochran of Hector, Heather Ramsey of Hector, Samantha and Turner Meadows of Dover, Kelly and Jared Hughes of Dover, Deana Spears of Dardanelle, Hannah and Phil D'Amato of Hector, Lauren Furguson of Atkins, and Amber Sisco of Atkins. Great-great grandchildren: Jenna, Emily, and Summer Gumm; Justin, Andrew, and Malachi Cochran; Ryder, Kurt & Noah Ramsey; Dixie and Mason Meadows; Cameron and Payton Hughes, Bently Spears, and Amelia D’Amato.
Pallbearers are Turner Meadows, Andy Cochran, Justin Cochran, Andrew Cochran, Cody Gumm and Charles Steele. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne, Eric, and Brian Steele and family. Rev. Jackie Pledger and Rev. Clint Craig will officiate.
