Marguerite (Gordon) Terry

August 11, 1937 ~ April 27, 2021 (age 83)

Marguerite (Gordon) Terry, 83, of Dardanelle, was ushered by angels into the presence of Jesus on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville.  The daughter of Bourland and Stella Mae (Willis) Gordon, she was born August 11, 1937, in Formosa, Arkansas.  She married Loyd Wert Terry on May 28, 1958, in Morrilton, AR.

Among the things valued most in Marguerite’s life, few were more important than education.  She invested in her own career by earning a Master’s Degree in Education, then advanced in a 26-year teaching career in home economics, science and language arts with the Bryant, Dardanelle and Russellville school districts of Arkansas.  She and Loyd shared careers in public education and were members of the Arkansas Education Association.

She was a role model for what being a dedicated teacher was all about.  She would often be seen arriving at her classroom very early in the morning and remaining late into the afternoon creating bulletin boards, setting up learning stations, or decorating walls to create the best learning environments for her students.  When she walked in the door at home each day, her arms would be full of papers and folders, keeping her into the late hours of the night reviewing assignments and grading exams.  She was truly a “teacher’s teacher.”

With all her focus on education, Marguerite still found time to build lasting memories with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved to sew, play the piano, grow plants and flowers, and cook. She was also an artist.  Even though she didn’t tackle a vegetable garden like her husband, Loyd, she faithfully canned and cooked all that his efforts produced.  Marguerite and Loyd raised collies and enjoyed traveling the circuit showing their breeds in sanctioned events of the National Kennel Club.  She and Loyd worshipped in the Church of Christ faith where Marguerite taught in the Vacation Bible School ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Stephen Vaughn; and a brother, Charles Willis Gordon.

Remaining to continue her rich life and legacy is her loving husband of 63 years, Loyd Terry; their two sons, Michael Terry (Carla) of Russellville, and Alan Terry of Dardanelle; their daughter, Cheryl Roberts (David) of Russellville; five grandchildren, John Terry, Michael Terry, Jennifer Adcock (Matt), Christopher Vaughn (Chelsey) and Lauren Roberts; and three great grandchildren, Aiden Terry, Maddox Adcock and Marley-Grace Adcock.

A private family graveside service will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Rev. Rick Smith officiating.  No public visitation is being planned.  Donations are encouraged in Marguerite’s memory to the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home, 220 John Babish Lane, Russellville, AR 72801.  The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the Hospice Home staff for their compassionate care of Marguerite during the final days of her life.
