Mary Powell, 73, of Russellville, went home to be with The Lord Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. The daughter of George Lee Self and Mildred Lorraine Self, she was born September 5, 1947 in Bakersfield, CA. She was raised in Woodburn, OR and attended high school there later graduating from Stockton Night School. While on vacation in Honolulu, HI, Mary met Randy Earl Powell and they were married soon after on May 3, 1972. Mary was a military wife, moving to Germany and other locations while raising their two children with Randy. Upon Randy retiring from the military, they moved to Wichita Falls, TX, where she worked for Sheppard Air Base in child development until her retirement. Mary and Randy would later move to Russellville where they became members of West Side Church of Christ, where she was active in cooking for Monday Night for the Master. She enjoyed reading, sewing, classic movies, and was an avid collector of German Dresden dolls. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Whit Earl Powell; three brothers, George Self, Allen Self, and David Self; one sister Lois Hendershott.
Survivors include her loving husband, Randy Powell; daughter, Cathy Gunnels and husband Jason; three grandchildren, Rose Gardner and husband Zach, J.D. Gunnels, and Will Gunnels, all of Russellville; three brothers, Jim Self and wife Susan, John Self and wife Dye, and Jody Self; three sisters, Jeannie O'Malley, Lola Nyberg Self, and Betty Williams, all of Salem, OR; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:00PM, Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Humphrey Chapel. Tim Tripp and Jim Bob Humphrey will officiate. Private cremation committal service will immediately follow the service under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Butler, Steve Frick, Charles May, J.D. Gunnels, Will Gunnels, and Zach Gardner.
