Mittie Adelia (Patterson) Small, age 93, of Russellville, was called to her heavenly home on February 5, 2021, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home. She was born August 9, l927, at Holly Springs, AR, to Cadmus Alexander and Mildred (McDonald) Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Chester Arthur Small, a son, David C. Small, four sisters and one brother, and her grand parents, William L. and Amy Everett Patterson and Luther and Lula Davis McDonald.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-laws, Cathy and Mike Soloway of McKinney, TX and Ellen Kay and Greg Moore of Russellville AR, a daughter-in-law, Patsy Small Howell of Danville, three granddaughters, Alicia Elmore of Rogers, Kimberly Small of Danville, and Tiffaney and Brad Jackson of Danville, three great-grand-daughters, Michaella Small, Jasmyn Small, Amelia Linder, a step-grandson, Jayson Moore of Cabot, and step-granddaughter, Christina Pickett, of Tulsa, OK, a brother, Earl Graham Patterson and wife Mary of Benton; a sister-in-law, Kate Patterson of Mena; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Mrs. Small retired from Arkansas Tech University in l990 where she was employed for 24 years as Secretary to the Dean of the School of Liberal and Fine Arts.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville, a member of the Carden Sunday School Class, the Prayer Shawl Ministry (she crocheted over 1250 shawls and baby blankets), a life member of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Pope County Arkansas Retired Teachers Associations.
Mrs. Small was a 70-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Matron of Russellville Chapter #505. She served as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Arkansas in 1997-l998, Grand Chaplain in 1990, Deputy Grand Lecturer in 1977, 1978, 1993; and Grand Representative of the District of Columbia in Arkansas in 1970-73. She also served on the Executive Board of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and received the Grand Cross of Colors.
A private family service to celebrate the life of Mittie Small will be in Humphrey Chapel on Wednesday, February 10, with Dr. Tony Griffith officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star will follow with the administration of burial rites. The service will be live-streamed for friends to view. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. A come-and-go viewing will be provided at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 9, 11:00AM to 5:00PM.
