Richard Lee Humphreys, 73, of Russellville, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. The son of Pat and Pauline Gibson Humphreys, he was born November 19, 1947 in Russellville, AR. He married Ann Davis Humphreys in 1966. Richard was a United States Army Veteran of the war in Vietnam and continued his service in the US Army Reserves.
He worked at Firestone for twenty-five years, retiring as a production supervisor in 1987. He was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union and served as VP of the URW Local 884 for several years. In 1983, he and Ann co-founded and operated Shiloh Greenhouse in Russellville for 30 years.
Richard was a big man with a big heart, whose door was always open to friends or strangers in need, no matter the day or hour. He approached life’s problems with a mixture of good humor and common sense, and his helpful advice was sought out by many.
Richard was a long time and faithful member of the West Side Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for over 30 years. In the face of great physical challenges over the past year, his faith remained strong, and was reflected in his statement to friends and family that, “I am ready to go….sure I’ve made my mistakes, but me and the Lord are good to go.”
A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting, many adventures with members of the West Side men’s four-wheeling ministry, and spending time with his entire family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Pat Humphreys; and a sister, Willette Rolands.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ann Humphreys; a son Mark (Mary) Humphreys; a daughter, Julie Humphreys all of Russellville. Four grandchildren: Arin Noel Sims of Tulsa, OK; Devin Pentz of Toms River, NJ; Carter Lawson and Ross Tilmon both of Dardanelle; two sisters: Nancy (Darrell) Gill and Paulette Jackson both of Maumelle; and one brother, Mike (Kim) Humphreys and a sister-in-law, Sue Humphreys of Russellville.
