Ronald Dean "Ronnie" Duffield, who for over 80 years was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, "Pa" and friend, left this life for a tremendous upgrade on June 7, 2020 at Arkansas Hospice House in Russellville. Ronnie was born January 6, 1940 in Pawhuska, Osage Nation, Oklahoma to the late Luke B. Duffield Jr. and Mary Katherine Ford Duffield. Although born in the Osage Nation, Ronnie was a tribal member of the Cherokee Nation and very proud of his native heritage.
He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1958, where his talents with a basketball and 33 points of average scoring per game, resulted in a scholarship to then College of the Ozarks in Clarksville.
He founded Ronnie Duffield Gravel Company in 1971 and for 45 plus years made many friends in the quarrying industry. Ronnie was very generous and the ball teams, special student trips, people and groups that he donated to were numerous.
He is survived by his wife Susan McMullen Duffield of Russellville, sons Luke Duffield (Stephanie), David Duffield (Averi) and Matthew Duffield (Brennen) all of Russellville. He was "Pa" to Peyton Duffield (Brooke) of Warrior, AL, Meredith, Eleanor, Mary Katherine, Audrey, Stella and Julia Duffield all of Russellville. He was a brother to Carolyn Kendrick (Dale) of Pottsville and Linda Duffield of Amelia Island, Florida, as well as the late Margaret Taylor and Billy Duffield. He was known as "Uncle Ronnie" to the late Larry Duffield, Randy Duffield, Glenna Dollar, Ricky Taylor, Randall Taylor, the late Ronald Kendrick, the late Roger Kendrick, the late Keith Kendrick, Kathy Whittington, Billy Hampton and Mellissa Hampton. He was known as friend to numerous people whom he loved dearly; you know who you are. If we started listing it could take up the rest of the days paper.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Thurlby for 38 years of excellent healthcare that added many additional years to Ronnie’s life. The family wishes to acknowledge several special and long-time friends as honorary pallbearers, including, Rex Chambers, Burl McAnulty, Jimmy Staggs, Odell Pfeiffer, and current and former employees of Duffield Gravel.
In accordance with Ronnie’s wishes, the burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, Friendship Community Care or simply help out a friend or loved one that needs it or commit a random act of kindness to a stranger. Any of these things would bring a smile to his face and genuine pleasure to his heart. Just as he has always brought to ours.
