Ruby Mae Sheely, 94, of Dardanelle, died Sunday, March 27, 2022, at her home. She was cremated following a private family committal service in the Chapel of Light at the J. Herman Humphrey Dignity Cremation Center in Russellville, under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
The daughter of Otis and Hattie (Schmechel) Behncke, she was born February 22, 1928, in Baudette, Minnesota. She married her late husband, Irl E. Sheely, on June 30, 1948, in Baudette.
Those preceding Ruby in death include her husband of 58 years, Irl Sheely; her parents; a brother, Leroy Behncke; and two sisters, Ardell Kvool and Dorothy Kaufman.
She is survived by a son, David Sheely (Cindi) of Clarksville; two daughters, Kristine Olson (Kenneth) and Linda Shott (Rick) both of Dardanelle; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Bernice Thomson; a brother-in-law, Dean Rivard; and a sister-in-law, Evie Behncke.
Ruby was a homemaker on the farmland she and Irl raised their family on. Both were members of the Yell County Cattlemen’s Association, and being one who loved to create and sew, Ruby designed and sewed the original Yell County Mounted Patrol flag, and sewed the American flag that flew over the patrol facility. She enjoyed oil painting, quilting, crocheting & knitting and always grew a large garden each season and canned fruit & vegetables for families.
More than anything, Ruby loved the Lord and was passionate about serving in the church. She made St. John’s Lutheran Church her family of faith, and served as the church recording secretary for 25 years. She was active in the Sunday School and VBS teaching ministries, as well as the worship choir and the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League.
