Verna "The Queen" Daniel, 99, of Russellville, died Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Brookdale Living Center in Russellville. The daughter of Owen and Eula (Mobley) Taylor, she was born August 8, 1921 in Bluffton, AR. After graduating from Fourche High School, she attended Arkansas Tech and received an associate’s degree of science.
In August of 1945, she and her high school sweetheart, TJ Daniel, were married. She and TJ were married at her parents’ home in Bluffton. Verna’s wedding dress was handmade by her mother. Verna began work at the First State Bank of Plainview as a bank teller in the mid 1960’s, then a loan officer and finally as Vice President and Branch Manager of the First State Bank of Ola, working for over 30 years before her retirement. She was recognized as a leader in community banking in Arkansas and served as president of the Arkansas Women's Bankers Association. She also was a member of the Lady’s Coffee Club. After her retirement, she volunteered at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, and was selected as Volunteer of the Year.
She was a long-time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School classes and served as Superintendent of Sunday School and also served as President of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed arranging flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, TJ Daniel.
Survivors include her two sons, Jim Daniel (Pam) of Keenesburg, CO and John R. Daniel (Epi) of Reno, NV; daughter-in-law, Louise Ellington Daniel of Russellville, AR; grandson, Thomas N. Daniel (Melissa) of Russellville; granddaughter, Ann Greenwich (Jeremy) of Bosnia, Herzegovina; seven great-grandchildren, Gabe, Caleb, Madelyn, and Lilly Greenwich, and Hayden, Eli, and Cooper Daniel.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Rev. Mike Lowenburg will officiate. Cremation arrangements are by the J Herman Humphrey Dignity Cremation Center. Burial will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
