William Russell Barker, 89, of Russellville, died Monday, July 21, 2020, at his home surrounding by his loving family. A son of James and Josephine Francis (Brown) Barker, he was born December 16, 1930, in Miami, FL. He married the love of his life, Dollie Mae (Davis) Barker, on November 29, 1952, and they spent 66 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death in 2018.
Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, during the Korean War era. Rising to the rank of Corporal, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, before being Honorably Discharged in 1955. Following his Army career, he owned & operated a service station and then went to work with the United States Postal Service, where he loved delivering mail, and retired as a Station Manager in Hialeah, FL.
Bill worshipped with his faith family at First Baptist Church of Russellville where he and Dollie studied God’s Word together as members of the Golden Voyagers Sunday School Class and later the Jacobs Sunday School Class. He enjoyed wood crafts, and helping other people.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie; a sister, Dorothy Carr; and a brother, James Barker.
He is survived by his daughter and faithful caregiver, Roxanne Barker of their home in Russellville; his son, William Barker, Jr. (Windy) of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, Martin Barker and Emily Delgado (Esteban) both of San Antonio; a great granddaughter, Stellaluna Delgado of San Antonio; and a niece, Melissa Chapman of Orlando, FL.
A private family committal and burial will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Mr. Paul Brixley will officiate.
