Willie Ann (Hudson) Thomas, 84, of Danville, passed through the veil of death Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born July 30, 1936, in Turley, Oklahoma to Ella Lela Elizabeth (Harper) and William Thomas Hudson, the eighth of nine children. The youngest child passed away which left Willie as the baby of the family. She married the love of her life, Roy Bedford Thomas on June 5, 1953.
She was a bright spot in her parents and siblings’ lives. When she was born, she was already an aunt 3 times. She grew up on a farm southeast of Skiatook, Oklahoma with several of her nieces and nephews, who were like her brothers and sisters. She attended school at Skiatook. During her high school years she played different instruments in the school band. Later, in life she learned to play the piano and played hymns at church.
Willie was a housewife & mother and worked various jobs until 1970, when her mother went into a nursing home. Willie became a nurse’s aide at the nursing home so she could remain close and provide loving care to her mother. She fell in love with the people and spent most of her time at the nursing home visiting even when she wasn’t working.
This meaningful work inspired her to complete the education & training and in 1972 at 36 years of age, she become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). When she was 54 years of age, she went back to school and became a Registered Nurse (RN). She continued her passionate career in nursing until she was 74 years old, when a shoulder injury forced her to retire.
